How I made Darkness - The Pants

This was fun because I am not a seamstress. I did manage to make them come together. I bought four yards of a black canvas cloth. I chose the heavier material as it did not let the seams and edges of the foam show. I wore a pair of old dockers cut off about midway on my thigh as an anchor for all the cloth pieces. This was a good solution to put it all together instead of wrestling with making pants from scratch.

Once I had an idea of how the leg would fit, I started cutting. I made the pants in several pieces. The upper and lower leg were separate and connected with brass rings evenly spaced. I was wearing the tights to better size the cloth. I cut the thigh piece up the side and stitched it in a cross pattern with the same wax twine used for the horns. This worked well for both a visual effect and durability.

Now that all the pieces were sized and the leg halves sewn together, I sewed the legs to the docker cut-offs. I then sewed on flaps of cloth to cover any exposed docker material. This also created a more rough medieval look. The faux fur was wrapped around my ankle and adjusted over the top of the hooves. I sewed them together to make a boot like fitting. I attached a piece of Velcro to the inside of the fur a few inched above the top of the hoof to the top of the shoe. This created a more natural joint look.

The final touch was a piece of leather across the front at the belt line studded with little gems. I then took 1/4" cord painted black, cut into lengths and hot glued to the back of the leather piece. While not movie accurate it was a nice touch to for the look.
